Summary of the Store Manager Position:
This Store Manger position is responsible for managing all aspects of a retail liquor store including adherence to city and state laws regarding retail sale of alcohol beverages, tasks related to staffing, pricing/inventory, cash management, customer service, and enforcing company policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In-store staff – Supervises store staff; schedules assignments of full and part-time employees; interviews, hires, and coaches employees; evaluates store personnel on an annual basis; disciplines, suspends, and discharges employees in cooperation with supervisor; and provides ongoing training concerning company work procedures.
    • Store profitability – Assumes responsibility for store profitability by 1) modifying the pricing for sales items for sale as they relate to customer base preferences; 2) maintaining inventory levels and security controls, 3) studying sales trends and adjusting inventory mix to achieve maximum sales, 4) supervising the unloading of store merchandise deliveries and verifying invoices, 5) monitoring the movement of inventory and periodically counting product to verify accuracy, 6) monitoring and re-training employees on opening and closing procedures, and 7) ordering product.
    • City and state regulations – Routinely trains and re-trains employees regarding adherence to city and state laws related to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
    • Financial management – Prepares and transmits regular and special reports to supervisors and company financial officers covering sales, stock, deposits, and other activities; verifies register sales; makes bank deposits; monitors cash reserves for daily sales; and resolves voided sales transactions and discrepancies.
    • Customer Service – Builds a loyal customer base by providing exceptional customer service through staff training in customer assistance and product knowledge.
    • Store Appearance – Maintains a clean and neat sales floor and office according to company guidelines and works with supervisors to schedule necessary store maintenance.
    • Merchandising – Assumes responsibility for merchandising the retail sales area of the store to follow company guidelines and makes determinations on special merchandise displays in accordance with customer preference and demand.
    • Versatile- Assumes the responsibilities of subordinate employees when necessary.
    • All other duties as assigned – Works in other stores on a temporary basis or special projects.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
    • Knowledge of and ability to follow state laws and city ordinances related to the sale of alcohol.
    • A minimum of three years of experience in liquor management including merchandising, retail sales, purchasing, inventory control, and customer service.
    • Ability to select, supervise, motivate, and train employees to create a group which is team oriented and dedicated to customer service.
    • Ability to use good judgment and discretion in sales based on factors such as age, state of intoxication, and product theft.
    • Ability to use a computer, computerized Point of Sale software, cash register, and a 10-key calculator.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as making change, counting cash, and using percentages to set gross profits.
    • Experience with negotiating agreements.
    • Ability to work independently in the absence of a supervisor.
    • Must be self motivated and strive for success.
    • This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
    • Flexibility in work schedule is required to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.

Summary of the Assistant Manager Position:
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible to assist in the management of the liquor store operations as directed to include interactions with customers; general cash management and invoice preparation; training and directing cashiers; preparing orders for beer, wine and alcohol based on regular inventories of stock; restocking; store maintenance; and assuming store management duties during the manager’s absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve liquor store customers – Greet customers; offer assistance in selecting merchandise; answer questions about products, prices, and recommendations; check ID’s, professionally monitor customers for possible theft; deal with customer problems and complaints.
    • General accounting duties –  Balance cash register tapes and receipts at end of shift; assist in checking daily receipts and preparing bank deposits; create and maintain daily receipt files; contact bank for change orders; compile, code and prepare invoices for data bag pickup and calculate and make price changes as needed.
    • Store staff – Assist in training, managing, and coaching of cashiers/stockers and other part-time employees. Responsible for all cashier’s duties when assistance is needed.
    • Inventory control – Inventory beer supply as needed for regular orders and special orders; capable of placing liquor and wine orders and fill in orders; check incoming deliveries of store products to verify accuracy of invoice.
    • Maintain store appearance – Direct and assist in the setup of new displays; restock store shelves and reset cooler as needed; face and dust bottles and shelves regularly; sweep and/or vacuum floors; clean windows, maintain clean and well supplied restrooms; assist in posting POS signs and creating displays.
    • In absence of Store Manager, assume full store management responsibilities with the assistance of supervisors.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
    • Three years of progressively responsible retail experience preferably in a liquor store operation.
    • Knowledge of and ability to follow state laws and city ordinances related to the sale of liquor.
    • Ability to use good judgment and discretion in sales based on factors such as age, state of intoxication and product theft.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and public.
    • Ability to provide instruction and direction to less experienced employees and subordinates.
    • Ability to use a computer, cash register, and a 10-key calculator.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as making change, counting cash, and using percentages to set prices/gross profits.
    • Experience with negotiating agreements.
    • Ability to work independently in the absence of a supervisor.
    • This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
